Longleaf Elementary has been named a Participating School by the MAC (Mississippi Arts Commission). We have many professional development opportunities for our teachers to attend. We will be integrating arts in our classroom and throughout the school to allow our students to deepen their knowledge and learning experiences.

Longleaf Lemonade Wars

After reading the novel The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies, Longleaf 4th grade students had their own Lemonade WarLongleaf Style! Teams of 4th grade students created lemonade stands and sold lemonade to the students of Longleaf. These 4th grade students were responsible for the design of their stand, marketing, and promotion. The stands were in competition with one another, and all the proceeds went to "Alex's Lemonade Stand," a non-profit organization that raises money for childhood cancer research. The kids raised over $1000.00!

I love how the 4th grade teachers integrated the arts into this fabulous project! Not only did the kids create the lemonade stands, but they also created posters promoting their stands. Although the kids learned lots of math, science, language arts, and social studies skills during this project, I think the greatest lesson that they learned was the importance of helping others!
