Longleaf Elementary has been named a Participating School by the MAC (Mississippi Arts Commission). We have many professional development opportunities for our teachers to attend. We will be integrating arts in our classroom and throughout the school to allow our students to deepen their knowledge and learning experiences.

Show Choir Camp

Longleaf 5th graders had a blast at show choir camp! The camp was run by Limelight directors, Jennifer Timidaiski and Jennifer Craft.  The purpose of this camp was to prepare the students for Limelight auditions in August. The students learned a song and a dance, played team-building games, and received information about auditions. At the end of the camp, the students performed for their parents. They did a fantastic job!
Get ready! Limelight will be taking the stage soon!

Whole Schools Summer Institute

Longleaf teachers had a blast at the Whole Schools Summer Institute! We spent the week learning new arts integration strategies. We painted, sculpted, danced, acted, and so much more! It was a fun and learning-filled week!

This is the fabulous team of teachers that attended the event!

We learned how to make costumes using inexpensive items.

The kids would love making these cool costumes!

This would give the kids an opportunity to be creative and expressive!

We LOVE art we can wear!

We learned interesting painting techniques!

Oooooh!

This painting technique uses a wire screen and scrub brush to create a splatter effect!
This is a great way to splatter paint AND it's not messy!!

It looks like the stars in the sky! Cool!

This is the finished product! I think the kids would enjoy making this solar system! I know I did!

We learned a lot about dance and movement! Unfortunately,  this is the only picture I have. It's difficult to take pictures when you're dancing!

This is another interesting painting technique!  Mrs. Waters is blowing paint with a straw to create this effect!

Beautiful Ocean Scene!

We saw lots of great presenters! This is one of our favorites, Kay Thomas!

We loved participating in the culinary arts!

Decorating cupcakes was fun and tasty!

Creative and Beautiful!

This is a work of art that you can eat! It doesn't get any better than that!

These watercolors were created by one of our teachers!

Good job, Mrs. Seagie!
We were excited that Mrs. McCarty joined us on Wednesday!

We had a great week! We can't wait to start using all the new strategies and techniques we learned!
Our students are going to love it! Thanks, WSI!
