Longleaf Elementary has been named a Participating School by the MAC (Mississippi Arts Commission). We have many professional development opportunities for our teachers to attend. We will be integrating arts in our classroom and throughout the school to allow our students to deepen their knowledge and learning experiences.

A Musical Day

Longleaf 1st grade students created art inspired by the books, A Musical Day and Before John was a Jazz Giant. After reading the stories, Ms. Clark's students listened to jazz music and then created art that showed how the music made them feel. I love how each drawing is very colorful and unique. I can almost feel the music jumping off the page!

In Ms. Moore's art class, all of the 1st grade students created multimedia art inspired by the story. I love how each background is unique!

In Ms. Harvey's class, the students created instruments using objects they found around the classroom! They listened to jazz music and then made their own music!

In Ms. Soberoski and Ms. Bloomingburg's class, the students created art inspired by Henri Matisse! These are so cool!

I love how the first grade teachers incorporated both visual arts and music into these language arts lessons. I'm sure these stories really "came to life" for the first grade students!
