Longleaf Elementary has been named a Participating School by the MAC (Mississippi Arts Commission). We have many professional development opportunities for our teachers to attend. We will be integrating arts in our classroom and throughout the school to allow our students to deepen their knowledge and learning experiences.

Picasso Inspired Self-Portraits

After learning about the letter Ss and Spain, Craft's Critters created self-portraits inspired by Spanish artist, Pablo Picasso! These kindergarten students started the project by creating unique face shapes. Then, they used a torn-paper technique to make the faces look interesting. Last, they drew facial features and glued them on the face in an interesting way! The kids chose colors and shapes that they felt represented their personality. I think Picasso would have approved of these awesome works of art!

Mad Scientists!

Longleaf first grade students had so much fun in the Longleaf Lab! The first grade teachers went all out for this special day! The hall was decorated in black and glow-in-the-dark paint with lots of cool decorations. The teachers dressed as mad scientists…crazy hair and all! The kids participated in science experiments and arts integrated activities! These kids and teachers are MAD about learning!
