Longleaf Elementary has been named a Participating School by the MAC (Mississippi Arts Commission). We have many professional development opportunities for our teachers to attend. We will be integrating arts in our classroom and throughout the school to allow our students to deepen their knowledge and learning experiences.

Kay Thomas Arts Experience

Longleaf teachers and students were very excited to welcome artist, Kay Thomas, to our school this week! Kay presented model lessons with our kindergarten, first, and second grade students while teachers observed the process. She demonstrated drawing lessons, painting lessons, and sculpting lessons! She also led a professional development session for the teachers! During the session, the teachers learned about elements of art and how to use these elements in the classroom. We had a lot of fun learning with Kay!

We love Ms. Kay!

Second grade students learned how to draw figures in action!

Kindergarten students learned how to paint a sky and how to make beautiful butterflies!

First Grade Students learned how to make flower sculptures!

The chickens these kindergarten students created are fabulous!

The teachers had fun, too! We learned a lot!
