Longleaf Elementary has been named a Participating School by the MAC (Mississippi Arts Commission). We have many professional development opportunities for our teachers to attend. We will be integrating arts in our classroom and throughout the school to allow our students to deepen their knowledge and learning experiences.

Living Biography Museum

Longleaf third grade students brought history to life!

The students were given the opportunity to choose a person of historical significance.  Students had to complete research, develop an informative brochure and essay, and finally become the historical figure at the Living Museum!

Throughout this biography project, students were taught research techniques, how to write an informative essay, and the importance of preserving our history and heritage. Visitors and family members were invited to learn all about the historical figures from the students themselves.  Overall, this project served as a wonderful cross-curricular, project-based learning experience and received lots of compliments from the visitors.  The students learned a great deal about their historical figures and were impressive to say the least!

What a creative way to integrate performance arts into the curriculum! Good job, third grade!
