Vocabulary Parade

In order to encourage vocabulary development, the Longleaf 2nd grade teachers planned a vocabulary parade! Each of the six classes were given a suggested word list for the students to choose a word from for their study. The students were given a “Costume Design Planning Sheet” to assist them at home during the development of their costume design. During the planning stage the students learned the definition of the word, learned how to use the word in a sentence, and also sketched their costume ideas. The students proudly marched the parade route showing off their word to Longleaf students and families. After the parade, the students gathered with the other classes for a “meet and greet” to teach their friends about their words, as well as show off their costumes and learn from others. 

Wow! I think this parade will become a new Longleaf tradition!

Spooktacular Projects

Longleaf students are so creative! Check out the spooktacular projects created by our kindergarten, first, and third grade students! 

After learning about the letter Mm, kindergarten students created Monster Masterpieces! The kids used items from around their house to create these marvelous monsters! I love how each monster is interesting and unique! 

First grade students created a storybook pumpkin patch! The kids turned pumpkins into characters from stories, and they wrote about the characters! These pumpkins are so awesome! 

After learning about descriptive writing techniques, third grade students pretended to be real-estate agents and created booklets describing the house they were trying to sell! This was no easy task because the houses were haunted! After creating the booklet, each student created a house that reflected the descriptive writing. Wow! These are so cool!

Constitution Day!

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

Longleaf third grade students celebrated Constitution Day on September 16th! This is an American federal observance that recognizes the adoption of the United States and those who have become US citizens. 

Students learned the Star Spangled Banner during music prior to the special day. Students rotated to different stations to learn about the Liberty Bell, The Statute of Liberty, The Preamble, and Why the American Flag is important. They also learned about George Washington. While creating art projects, the students learned the symbolism and importance of each! 

What a wonderful way to integrate the arts while learning about the history of our county! Good job, third grade!
