Longleaf Elementary has been named a Participating School by the MAC (Mississippi Arts Commission). We have many professional development opportunities for our teachers to attend. We will be integrating arts in our classroom and throughout the school to allow our students to deepen their knowledge and learning experiences.

Wax Museum

Mrs. Richards' and Mrs. Davis' fourth grade students concluded their unit of study on Native Americans by creating a wax museum! They integrated their knowledge of tableaux with research skills, speaking skills, and first-person writing skills to showcase important events from Native American history. Students were responsible for researching the event, writing their own scripts, and memorizing their scripts. They designed their own backdrop, costumes, and tableaux pose. Some of the exhibits included Pocahontas, The French and Indian War, The Trail of Tears, and The Battle of Little Bighorn.

Longleaf students were given the opportunity to visit the Wax Museum! One kindergarten student said, "That was the coolest thing ever! I can't wait to do that when I'm in fourth grade."

Mrs. Richards and Mrs. Davis did a fabulous job organizing this Wax Museum!
These kindergarten students are engaged in this learning experience!
They are very interested in what these fourth graders have to say!

Rockin' into First Grade

Craft's Critters rocked the stage with their end of the year performance, "Rockin' into First Grade." The "rock-n-roll" songs featured skills the kids have learned throughout the year. While learning these songs, the kids learned about rhythm, diction, and stage presence. Earlier in the year, Craft's Critters had the opportunity to watch the OGMS Spotlight Show Choir perform. These middle school kids were a big inspiration to these kindergartners! After watching the performance, one child said, "I'm going to perform just like them. Their faces were so happy."

One of my favorite parts of integrating the arts in the classroom is the happiness it brings the children!

ROCK ON CRAFT'S CRITTERS!

Wild About Kindergarten

The Baygents' Bees did an awesome job performing their jungle themed musical, "Wild About Kindergarten." The children sang songs that featured skills they had learned throughout the year! Family and friends really enjoyed watching this "wild" performance! Good job, Baygents' Bees!

Super Kindergartners!

The Bigner Bookworms and the Braley Bunch did a SUPER job performing their end of the year musical! I think the Super Hero theme was awesome! The kids performed songs that featured the skills they learned throughout kindergarten! I think these super heroes are ready to fly to first grade! Good Job, kiddos and teachers!
